A Cunning Plan

By Mark Baigent

I have had no success persuading my daughter (14yrs) to eat seeds, until I came up with a cunning plan......

I take one third pumpkin seeds, one third sunflower seeds and one third pine nuts and mix them together. I place the mixed seeds into a sieve.

I mix a third of a cup of Tamari sauce with two thirds water then I pour the mix through the seeds, catching it in a bowl so I can pour it through two more times.

I then spread the seeds out on to baking trays (plural as I make loads)

Place the baking trays into a pre heated oven (180 degrees).

then take them out after a couple of minutes and stir/turn then.  And stir/turn again after another five mins.

Total cook/bake time is about ten minutes, or until the seeds turn brown.

When finished I have a spicy snack which my daughter loves.

Here is the cunning bit.......

I mix the roasted seeds about with uncooked seeds the uncooked seeds take on the flavour and my daughter has no idea she is eating raw seeds :-)

Her friends also love the spicy seeds, as do I.
